Riparian Restoration in honor of Dr. Russ Walker

04/20/2019 09:00 AM - 02:00 PM MT

Description

Dr. Russ Walker led the Environmental Science program at CMU for over two decades, inspiring countless students to pursue a career in environmental science.  To honor Russ's dedication and contributions, we invite you to join Russ's family, students, friends, and colleagues to a riparian restoration volunteer day in collaboration with the Grand Valley Audubon Society. We will be planting and caging cottonwoods (to protect them from beavers), removing invasive shrubs, building brush piles and other tasks to improve habitat on the Audubon Nature Preserve. Even if you can’t participate in the whole event, please do come for lunch around 12:30. Grand Valley Audubon will also briefly share information about their wetland improvement project on the property. Please bring your own water, work gloves, sun protection, lawn chair and any tools you may have for pruning or cutting vegetation. Coffee and bagels will be served in the morning and a lunch will be provided. Please carpool if possible, parking is limited.
